These are ranges published by travel guides in May 2026, not fixed prices. They change with the season (October–November and Tet are the busiest), the vehicle and what is included. If the driver waits in Ha Giang for a few days and drives you back, the same May 2026 guide says a round trip is often 20–25% cheaper than two one-way trips.
Time and route
The trip is about 5.5–6.5 hours with one rest stop. You leave Ha Noi on the expressway north, then follow National Road 2 through Tuyen Quang to Ha Giang town. The last part is a two-lane mountain road with many trucks — another reason to travel in daylight.

A private car suits families with young children, older travellers and groups of 3–4, and anyone who does not want a night bus. Shared between three or four people it works out at roughly 1–1.5 million VND (about US$40–55) each.
What to agree before you book
- What the price includes: road tolls, parking, the driver’s meals and, for multi-day trips, the driver’s accommodation. The May 2026 guide warns that unclear extras can add a few hundred thousand VND.
- Pickup time and place, and any stops you want on the way.
- Waiting days if the driver will stay in Ha Giang and take you back.
- A licensed transport business and a written agreement that names the driver, the vehicle, the route and the stops.
- Language: confirm the driver speaks some English, or write down key requests in Vietnamese.
