Lung Khuy cave sits high on a mountainside in the Quan Ba area, opened to visitors at the end of 2015. The cave itself is about 517 m long, and the visit follows a raised walkway of around 400 m past lit karst formations — stalactites and stalagmites shaped by water over thousands of years.
Getting there is half the experience. From the village below, you walk uphill for about 1.2 to 1.5 km on a stone path, partly with railings but steep in places. Some people ride a motorbike up a narrow side road to shorten the walk, but the road is rough and only for confident riders. The climb takes about 20 to 30 minutes on foot, depending on your pace. It is not a difficult walk if you are reasonably fit, but it is not easy for small children, anyone with bad knees, or anyone in flip-flops.
Inside the cave, the walkway is well built and the formations are lit with coloured lights. It is cool and damp — a relief if you have been riding in the heat. The cave is not enormous compared to some in Vietnam, but the formations are varied and the setting, high on the hillside with views back down the valley, makes it worth the climb. A visit inside takes about 30 to 40 minutes at a relaxed pace.
The entrance fee is about 50,000 VND per person (indicative, checked 2025). Opening hours are listed as 7 am to 7 pm daily, but arrive well before closing to have time for the walk up and the cave visit.
Lung Khuy makes a good short stop on the way between Ha Giang town and Yen Minh, especially if you are spending a night in the Quan Ba area and have an afternoon to spare. It pairs well with the Quan Ba twin mountains viewpoint and the Lung Tam linen village, both nearby.
Local tips
- The walk up is steep in places — wear proper shoes and bring water.
- Allow about 1.5 hours total: 20-30 minutes up, 30-40 minutes in the cave, 15-20 minutes down.
