Getting there
On the main road between Ma Pi Leng Pass and Meo Vac town, on the Meo Vac side. About 15 km from Meo Vac.

Pa Vi (Pa Vi Ha) is a Hmong village at the foot of the Ma Pi Leng Pass, on the Meo Vac side. It sits in a small valley just off the main road, surrounded by terraced fields and low stone walls. The village has been developed as a community-tourism site, with traditional houses, family-run homestays and simple local food.

The main reason to stay here is the pass itself. If you sleep in Pa Vi, you can ride up Ma Pi Leng in the early morning — before the traffic, before the tour groups, and before any afternoon fog or cloud rolls in. The road from the village to the highest point of the pass takes about 20 to 30 minutes by motorbike, and on a clear morning the light on the canyon and the Nho Que River below is at its best.

The village is small and quiet. There is not a lot to do in the evening besides eat with your host family and go to bed early, which is exactly the point. A few families offer homestay rooms — simple, clean, with shared bathrooms. Dinner is whatever the family is eating: rice, vegetables from the garden, maybe some pork or chicken, and corn wine if you want it. The food is plain and good.

During the day, you can walk the lanes between the stone-walled houses, look at the terraced fields, and talk to people if they are around. It is a working village — people farm, raise animals, and go about their day. Walk slowly, ask before photographing anyone, and don't wander into yards or houses without being invited.

Pa Vi is also a good starting point for walking the Ma Pi Leng sky path, the old footpath along the cliffs below the road. The trailhead is a short ride from the village.

Staying in a family homestay here is the most direct way your money helps the village. The alternative is to stay in Meo Vac town (about 15 km away) and ride the pass from there, but you lose the early-morning start and the quiet evening.
