Getting there
In Yen Minh town, on the main Loop road between Quan Ba and Dong Van.
Fees & opening hours
Open daily; Sunday is the main market day, busiest in the morning.

Yen Minh is the market town between Quan Ba and Dong Van, sitting roughly at the midpoint of the first day's ride for most Loop itineraries. By the time you arrive — late morning or early afternoon, depending on how many times you stopped — you are ready for food, and that is exactly what Yen Minh is best at.

The market is open daily, with stalls selling fruit, vegetables, dried goods, noodles, snacks and household items. On most days it is a quiet, functional place — a town serving the surrounding communes. But Sunday is different. Sunday is the main market day, when people from the villages across the district come in to trade, and the streets around the market fill with produce, livestock, embroidered fabrics, silver jewellery, and the sharp, familiar smell of pho and thang co.

For most travellers, Yen Minh is a lunch stop, and a good one. The town has several pho shops and noodle stalls around the market, and prices are lower than in Dong Van or Meo Vac. Sit down, eat slowly, fill your water bottles, and stretch your legs before the road climbs again towards the Tham Ma slope and the plateau beyond.

If your itinerary passes through on a Sunday, the market is worth arriving early for. By the time the day-trip riders from Ha Giang town reach Yen Minh in the late morning, the best of the market is already winding down. Those on a slower itinerary who stayed in Quan Ba the night before can arrive in the first hours and see it at its fullest.

The town itself is not a destination, but it is a useful waypoint. There are fuel stations, basic supplies, and ATMs. If you need to adjust your itinerary, Yen Minh is the last significant town before the landscape changes and the plateau begins in earnest.

As at any local market, buy something before photographing people. A bag of fruit, a bowl of noodles — it is both good manners and a way of actually participating in the market instead of just looking at it.
