Short answer

November is usually buckwheat's best month in Ha Giang: dry, cool days, cold nights and fields in full bloom on the Dong Van plateau, with wild sunflowers along the roads. It is still a busy month, so book early. In 2026, festival events continue in early November in Dong Van and Ha Giang town.

Weather

November is usually dry and cool, with cold nights — colder than October, especially on the high plateau around Dong Van and Meo Vac. Pack warm layers, a proper jacket and something warm for sleeping in homestays — see what to pack.

What to see

  • Buckwheat in full bloom. November is often the peak of the season, with pink and white fields around Dong Van, Sa Phin, Lung Cu and Pho Bang. Timing shifts by one to three weeks each year; in 2026 the province sowed the fields in three waves so that flowers last until the end of December. More in buckwheat flower season.
  • Wild sunflowers (da quy) brighten the roadsides.
  • Long, clear views over the Ma Pi Leng pass and the Sung La valley.

Events in November 2026

Crowds and booking

November is still high season. Book accommodation in Dong Van and Meo Vac early, travel midweek if you can and start your days early. Early-morning fog is common on the passes; drive slowly and keep to daylight — see road safety.

Getting around

By car, the classic Loop takes four to five days — see Ha Giang by car and, for families, Ha Giang with kids. Ask early if you want to hire a driver.
